The Full Story

WILLIAM HE

"This country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it. And if it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something." The single greatest individual that kickstarted my aspirations for public service is President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt ushered America into an era of hope, progress, and prosperity. From the New Deal to the Economic Bill of Rights, FDR was a savior of the working man, champion of progressivism, and defender of American prowess. He revived America from the worst economic calamity in history, set up the backbone of the American Dream, and led us in war to the brink of victory. With his acclaimed ‘fireside chats’ he spoke directly to Americans about his policies and how he was fighting for them everyday in Washington.

Roosevelt is living proof that politics and public service truly has the potential to have an impact on people’s lives. FDR’s vision and legacy has largely driven a lot of my world and political philosophy. And since the days of the 2016 Iowa Caucuses, I’ve been hooked on politics and public policy. From leading student government to leading two nonprofits, public service has been the cornerstone of the ambitions behind my life’s work.

I've always thought of public service as the rent we pay for the privilege to live on this Earth.

That’s why I serve as Chairman on the Prosper Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council representing Rock Hill High School and thousands of students across Prosper, Texas by fighting to improve our education, raise civic engagement, & reshape how our schools tackle the growing teenage mental health.

Last Fall, I served as a U.S. Senate Page appointed by Senator John Cornyn to represent the state of Texas in Congress. As one of only 30 students around the country chosen, I worked a full-time job supporting U.S. Senators in their day-to-day schedule — all while going to school at 5am and completing 8 hours of homework on top of that.

Today, I run Dream for America – a national nonprofit seeking to get young people involved in our democracy and countering political extremism and illiberalism. Since launching 6 months ago, we’ve raised half a million dollars with volunteers in all 50 states reaching over 100 million Americans on social media.

I am also an Apple WWDC 2018 scholarship winner and I co-founded Bread for America, an anti-hunger organization that’s delivered over 10,000 pounds of food to 1,200 Americans.

Beyond that, I am an ice cream connoisseur, aspiring dog owner, avid traveler, & devoted model airplane collector. Outside school and my passion for public service, I also row varsity crew, dabble in coding and filmmaking, compete on the Model UN & Debate team, study Latin, and am fluent in both English and Mandarin.

I am also currently working on a research project analyzing the U.S. welfare system and the need for a better alternative to address the needs of everyday Americans.
